⚘ monkee see monkee do!! here's a cute monkey pattern for you all :)

NOTE: There will be a good amount of sewing involved, but always feel free to use whatever method you prefer (ie: hot glue/adhesive) to attach and secure each part!

The order will be HEAD→ BODY→ PARTS (ears, feet, tail)→ BANANA HAT (Optional)→ ARMS due to the customizable feature ♡

Materials I Used

• Chenille yarn, (Recommended Weight: 5-6)
• White/Cream - Inner Face & Ears
• Brown - Main face & body parts
• Yellow - Banana hat
• Scrap yarn, (Recommended Weight: 3-4) 
• Brown/Black - embroidered mouth details
• 5.5mm crochet hook 
• Safety eyes
• Stuffing (polyfil, etc.)
• Tapestry needle
• Optional: stitch markers

Abbreviations

ch - chain

slst - slip stitch

sc - single crochet

inc - single crochet increase

dec - single crochet decrease

FLO - front loop only (working in the loop closer to you)

HEAD (working in a spiral)

*Colors: Brown (B) & White (W) chenille

🛑 Start with Brown

R0: Make a magic ring by ch3 and slst in first stitch

R1: 8 sc in magic ring (8)

R2: 8 inc (16)

R3: [sc, inc]x8 (24)

R4: [2sc, inc]x8 (32)

R5-6: sc across (32)

🛑 The next rows will be all sc, color changing:

R7: 11B, 3W, 3B, 3W, 12B (32)

R8: 10B, 5W, 1B, 5W, 11B (32)

R9-11: 10B, 11W, 11B (32)

R12: (8sc, inc, sc, inc)B, 9W, (inc, sc, inc, 9sc)B (36)

🛑 The remaining rows will be Brown, but do not cut off the White yarn yet

R13: [4sc, dec]x6 (30)

*Using the working end of the White yarn (should be inside the head), surface crochet around the face for a clean edge (See photo). For surface crochet, this video is really helpful!

*Add safety eyes (i added them between R10-11) and embroider a mouth in a "T" shape

* Add stuffing

BODY (continuing from HEAD)

* Cut yarn leaving a tail, weave around the 6 FLO (from R24), and tighten to close up the body

EARS (x2)

R0: Make a magic ring by ch3 and slst in first stitch

(In half) slst sides together (around 8-9 slst)

Fasten off and leave tail for sewing

INNER EARS (x2)

Color: White

*Fasten off, and tie the two loose ends together

*Sew/attach onto EARS

PEELS (repeat x4)

R7: [2sc, inc]x2, turn (8)

R8: ch1, [3sc, inc]x2, turn (10)

R9: ch1, [4sc, inc]x2, turn (12)

R13: ch1, dec, 8sc, dec, turn (10)

R12: sc across, turn (10)

R13: ch1, dec, 6sc, dec, turn (8)

R12: sc across, turn (8)

*Fasten off and weave in the ends; DO NOT fasten off the final peel when finished

*Once all 4 peels are complete, slst around the edge for a clean finish, fasten off.

* Turn the HAT around, starting from where 2 adjacent PEELS meet (See photo), sc 3-4 the edges together to form a concave, making sure that it fits with the monkey HEAD, weave in the ends.

* Mold/shape the HAT to the HEAD, while folding up each of the PEELS to your preference and secure in place by sewing/adhesive

ARMS

VersionA (ONE Long Hanging Arm): ch45, skip 1, 44 slst in back bumps

⚠️ Depending on your yarn/gauge, this number can vary, so check and/or adjust the length to your liking

* Fasten off and leave tail for sewing

*Sew to attach both ends to the BODY (I placed them around R18-19)

VersionB (TWO Short Arms): ch8, skip 1, 7 slst in back bumps

*Fasten off and leave tail for sewing

*Sew to attach to the BODY (I placed them around R18-19)
