crochet pattern | sturdy miffy glasses holder

⚘ In my experience making crochet glasses holders, the main issue I found myself running into was how flimsy the holders were (specifically the side rims). I needed my holders to be sturdy & protective, so I've written down my process of making these cases more durable! ₍ᐢ. .ᐢ₎ ₊˚⊹♡

NOTE: I alternate where my increase stitches are as I work along the curve part of the oval base to give a smoother curve appearance. For example instead of
(1sc, inc) → (2sc, inc) (3sc, inc) (4sc, inc)
for consecutive rows, I do
(1sc, inc) → (inc, 2sc) (3sc, inc) (inc, 4sc)
Either way works just as fine! For the pattern, I'll keep it the traditional way, but know that you have the option to alternate your increase stitches if you like the look of a smoother curve.
I'll mark the rows that I alternate inc with a * if you want try it my way!

Materials I Used

  • White acrylic yarn, medium weight (4)
    • double stranded
  • Black or brown acrylic yarn (for face details)
  • stuffing (for ears)
  • 4.0mm crochet hook
  • Tapestry needle

Abbreviations

ch - chain

slst - slip stitch

sc - single crochet

sc inc - increase (2 sc in one stitch)

SIDE RIM

R7: slst+ch1, sc by inserting the hook into the V of the 1st stitch (from the top), and out of the next stitch (from the bottom)

Repeat around the base, where the the stitch you just put your hook out of becomes the "1st stitch".

R8: slst+ch1, sc in each stitch

Fasten off, weave in ends

use the tutorial in my youtube vlog to reference! (timestamp 4:20-5:37)

EARS (make 2!!)

**make sure to double strand the yarn!

R1: 5sc in magic ring, slst into first stitch, ch1 (5)

R2: sc inc in each stitch (10)

R3-8: sc in each stitch (10)

Leave a long tail for sewing. Lightly stuff the ears to hold its shape.

ASSEMBLY

* Sew the 2 ears along the side rim of the holder. You can place them as far or close together for a different bunny effect! (See photos for variations)

Use your own glasses to mark where you want your eyes and mouth to be. Sew back and forth (x3) between the rows of the base to make eyes, and a small X for the mouth. (See photos) for which rows I placed mine for reference:

Weave in/hide your ends...and that's it! ♥️
