crochet pattern | baby bear plushie (with bonnet)

 





⚘ hi friends! stash-buster project incoming! in my attempt to clear out my blue yarn stash (for my yt crochet color series), I made this cute inverted-color baby bear. please consider this "pattern" more like a guide; if you feel like some parts should be bigger/smaller for better proportions, feel free to do so! ₍ᐢ. .ᐢ₎ ₊˚⊹♡


Materials I Used

  • Blue + White yarn (or any color of your choice) 
    • I used: Acrylic yarn, medium weight (4)
    • **working with double stranded**
  • 4.0mm crochet hook
  • Safety eyes
    • tip: use gel nail polish to change the color of the eyes!
  • Stuffing 
  • Tapestry needle (for sewing)

Abbreviations

ch - chain

slst - slip stitch

sc - single crochet

dc - double crochet

inc - increase (2 sc in one stitch)

HEAD

**make sure to double strand the yarn!

R1: 6 sc in magic ring, slst in 1st sc (6)

R2: ch1, [inc]x6, slst in 1st sc (12)

R3: ch1, [sc, inc]x6, slst (18)

R4: ch1, [2sc, inc]x6, slst (24)

R5: ch1, [3sc, inc]x6, slst (30)

R6: ch1, [4sc, inc]x6, slst (36)

R7: ch1, [5sc, inc]x6, slst (42)

R8: ch1, [6 sc, inc]x6, slst (48)

R9-18: ch1, 1 sc in every stitch, slst (48)

**stuff as you go from this point

R19: ch1, [6sc, dec]x6, slst (42)

R20: ch1, [5sc, dec]x6, slst (36)

R21: ch1, [4sc, dec]x6, slst (30)

R22: ch1, [3sc, dec]x6, slst (24)

Fasten off


LEG 1

cut & fasten off

LEG 2 + BODY

R1-10) Make same as Leg 1, continue the body by inserting hook in a stitch from Leg 1

R11: ch1, 1 sc in every stitch, slst (48 around both legs)

R12-16: ch1, sc in every stitch, slst (48)

**stuff as you go from this point

R17: ch1, [6sc, dec]x6, slst (42)

R18: ch1, sc in every stitch (42)

R19: ch1, [5sc, dec]x6, slst (36)

R20: ch1, sc in every stitch (36)

R21: ch1, [4sc, dec]x6, slst (30)

R22: ch1, sc in every stitch (30)

R23: ch1, [3sc, dec]x6, slst (24)

*Add your safety eyes, I placed them between R16-17

Sew the mouth in a T shape one row below the eyes.

Leave a long tail for sewing, & fasten off


Sew the body and head together


ARMS (make 2)

R1: 6 sc in magic ring, slst in 1st sc (6)

R2: ch1, [inc]x6, slst in 1st sc (12)

R3: ch1, [sc, inc]x6, slst (18)

R4: ch1, 9sc, slst in next stitch

Stuff, leave tail or sewing, & fasten off


Sew the arms into place on the body


BONNET

**make sure to double strand the yarn!

R1: 6 sc in magic ring, slst in 1st sc (6)

R2: ch1, [inc]x6, slst in 1st sc (12)

R3: ch1, [sc, inc]x6, slst (18)

R4: ch1, [2sc, inc]x6, slst (24)

R5: ch1, [3sc, inc]x6, slst (30)

R6: ch1, [4sc, inc]x6, slst (36)

R7: ch1, [5sc, inc]x6, slst (42)

R8: ch1, [6 sc, inc]x6, slst (48)

R9: ch1, [7 sc, inc]x6, slst (54)

R10-16: ch1, sc in every stitch (54)

make sure the bonnet stretchs over the head at this point!

R17-22: ch1, 48 sc (48) * or until the width of the "neck"

R23: ch1, [skip1, 3dc in next, skip1, slst in next]x12

*should see 12 shells*

from the last shell, make a chain that stretches across the face:

slst into the 1st shell, weave in the end


EARS (make 2!!)

**make sure to double strand the yarn!

R1: 6sc in magic ring, slst into first sc (6)

R2: ch1, [inc]x6, slst in 1st sc (12)

R3: ch1, [sc, inc]x6, slst (18)

R4: ch1, [2sc, inc]x6, slst (24)

R5: ch1, [3sc, inc]x6, slst (30)

R6-8: ch1, sc in each stitch (30)

Leave a long tail for sewing. Slightly curve the ears when sewing them to the bonnet


Weave in/hide your ends...and that's it! 💙

  1. Hello! I'm a little bit confused with the arms since they don't look like the ones on your bear and in the picture of the bear on the sheet (at the top of the tutorial), I counted at least 6 rounds?

    1. im having that problem now too, and she says 9sc but there is 18 st in the 3rd row? if you fixed it please let me know how.

      r1- 6sc
      r2- 12sc (inc)
      r3- 18sc (sc, inc)
      r4-8- 18sc
